Is a foundation necessary for a shed?
Do you need a foundation for your shed? Typically, small sheds in the size range of 6×8 or smaller do not require a foundation. However, we suggest placing all sheds on a foundation for structure and ventilation purposes.
Do I need a concrete slab for a shed?

Can I use cinder blocks for a shed foundation?
Now we’ll look at a shed foundation type that we don’t recommend: shed foundation blocks. The problem with using cinder blocks is that it can create problems with your storage building down the road. This is especially true for larger sheds.
How far off the ground should a shed be?
It’s common for local regulations to require a shed to be 5-15 feet from the rear or sides of your property.
Can you put a shed on pavers?
Pavers fit together tightly, allowing you to create a sturdy base for your shed. Plus, they are durable and relatively inexpensive letting you get top quality results without breaking the bank. Using a shed paver foundation ensures your new outbuilding is on a stable, level surface.
Can I use decking as shed base?
Decking isn’t usually ideal to use as a shed base, mainly because it may not be strong enough to accommodate the weight of a shed. However, if you only intend to place a small garden storage unit on it, it should be okay.
Can you build a shed on concrete slab?

Can you put a shed on grass?

Can you put a shed on concrete blocks?
Use only solid concrete blocks for a permanent shed foundation. Concrete blocks with openings in them eventually crack and crumble under the weight of a shed. Place your shed in full sun in an open area at least 3 feet away from structures and overhanging trees.
How many bags of concrete do I need for a 10×10 slab?
The thickness of your 10′ x 10′ slab will determine just how many bags you need. The average thickness of a 10′ x 10′ concrete slab for a shed is 4 inches thick. At 4″ thick, your 10 x 10 slab will take 56 bags of concrete that weigh 80 lbs.
Do I need a vapor barrier under my shed?
Your shed does not need moisture or vapor barrier unless you plan to heat or cool it. The plastic should be 6 mil poly, but 10 mil to 20 mil is better. If you heat your shed, the barrier goes on the inside of the wooden frame. If you cool your shed, the moisture barrier goes on the outside of the building.
Do I need rebar for shed base?
Concrete that carries heavy loads (such as footings, foundation walls and columns) almost always requires reinforcing steel. Not all concrete work requires reinforcing though. Concrete projects such as pathways, some driveways and small shed or playhouse floors, generally do not require any steel reinforcing at all.
What do you put under a shed?
