Work quickly as you apply PolyShades® the length of each board in smooth, even strokes. Use the tip of your brush to gently smooth out the finish. Always apply PolyShades® moving your brush back and forth in the direction of the wood grain.
Do you have to sand between coats of PolyShades?
This removes any start/stop marks and bubbles. Before applying the second coat, sand with the 220 fine grit sanding paper – very lightly! And then remove sanding dust and apply the second thin coat as you did the first coat. Additional coats can be added to deepen the color.
Do you have to sand before using PolyShades?
Sand the surface of your wood-finished object lightly with sandpaper. Doing so will create an adhesive surface that is more receptive to the PolyShades finish. Remove all sanding dust from the surface of the object. Be sure that the surface is entirely dry before proceeding.
Can you use a rag to apply PolyShades?
Using a rag to apply stain, you’ll both apply and then remove any excess stain in one step. You have better control as to how much stain you apply and how you distribute it. Using a rag also eliminates the bubbles you get when you apply Polyshades with a brush.
Can you use spar urethane over PolyShades?
No, you should not put Polyurethane over spar urethane. This is because oil-based Polyurethane or interior varnish have a lower oil ratio than spar urethane. You should sand down the old finish and apply the same finish like the one you’ve removed. This will give you a good finish without requiring any extra work.
Can you put PolyShades over paint?

Do you need to thin stain to spray?
