To apply Montgomery straps, you place one strap on each side of the wound with the clear plastic edges facing each other; these edges must be ~1.5 in apart in order to lace and tighten them.

Wet-to-dry dressings consist of moistened gauze placed in or on a wound, left until dry and then removed. This procedure is usually done one to four times daily. True wet-to-dry dressings help to serve the goal of mechanical debridement.

Can you leave gauze stuck to wound?
Leave the bandage in place and dry for 24 hours. When removing the bandage after 24 hours, and it feels like the bandage is sticking to your wound, pour water onto the bandage to get it wet and gently and slowly remove the bandage. If you rip the bandage off while it is stuck it can start bleeding.

Purulent drainage is a sign of infection. It’s a white, yellow, or brown fluid and might be slightly thick in texture. It’s made up of white blood cells trying to fight the infection, plus the residue from any bacteria pushed out of the wound. There may be an unpleasant smell to the fluid, as well.
