All pegboard has holes with 1-in. spacing, but there are two thicknesses and two hole sizes available. Small hole pegboard is usually 1/8-in. -thick hardboard with 3/16-in.
What is standard pegboard size?
Pegboard is produced from MDF and HDF (High Density Fiberboard). Standard patterns offered are 1″ x 1″ OC, 1/2″ x 1/2″ OC, 1″ x 2″ OC, and 1″ x 3″ OC. Hole sizes are 9/32″ diameter (nominal 1/4″) and 3/16″ diameter (nominal 1/8″).
Does pegboard come in different sizes?
Pegboard holes come in two sizes: either the larger 9/32 inch holes or the smaller 3/16 inch holes. The larger 9/32 holes are for accommodating 1/4 inch peg hooks but can also hold the smaller 1/8 inch peg hooks.
How much weight can pegboard hold?
Pegboard manufacturers state the standard 3/16″ pegboard can safely hold 100 lbs of weight. The pegboard I tested showed a single peg can hold over 150 lbs without tearing or pulling away from the wall.
How do you make pegboard look good?
Frame it!
Building a frame is a great way to give a finished look to the edges so your pegboard looks more polished. If you aren’t into building your own, you can also have a custom frame built for it at a framing shop or buy as large a frame as you can find and then cut your pegboard to that size.
What size pegboard hooks do I need?
When purchasing your pegboard, make note of the hole size. Some have 1/4- inch holes, while others have 1/8-inch holes. The hole size will determine the type of hooks you need. Your home center will have a wide assortment of pegboard accessories, all of which can be quite useful.
How do you measure pegboard size?
For long straight hooks, the sizing usually refers to the metal piece measured from the base. In other words, the length of the hook measured from the pegboard to the tip.
Are pegboards good?
They offer easy access to essential items in the kitchen or bathroom and are a fun way to help kids organize and display the items they use most. While you might first think of a pressed hardboard with holes drilled into it, these basic brown wooden pegboards have evolved into many different varieties.
Are pegboard holes universal?
Pegboard hole spacing is standardized so the hooks will fit. What is NOT standardized is the hole size. There are 1/8; 3/16; and 1/4 pegboards out there. These hooks will fit the 1/4 and probably the 3/16 holes.
Can you Mount pegboard on drywall?
Pegboard goes up pretty easily and can be installed over drywall or even bare studs (such as in an unfinished garage). The trick to installing it is to create a 1/2-inch or larger gap between the wall and the back of the pegboard.
Should I paint pegboard?
When painting pegboard, we would recommend using a paint gun (or spray paint) over rollers. When using rollers, it will be much easier to get the pegboard holes clogged up, which makes it harder to fill your board with all your pegboard accessories once it’s painted.
Can you screw into pegboard?
Use a power drill or screwdriver to attach the furring strips to the back of the pegboard. Attach 3/4 -in. wood screws at the top and bottom of each strip and in the center. Do not attach the wood screws using the pre-drilled holes of the pegboard.
Do I need to prime pegboard before painting?
 Similar to painting walls or furniture, it’s important to use primer first.  So first I gave the face of my pegboard a quick coat of Zinsser Primer. Once it was dry, I added 2 coats of my desired taupe-y color (I mixed a few hues to get the color just right).
Can you put wallpaper over pegboard?
Wallpaper is my favorite way to decorate pegboard. It comes in a variety of colors and patterns, and is very easy to install (even easier and less time than paint!).
Can I make my own pegboard?
Making it was actually surprisingly easy and you don’t need many supplies or tools to make one of your own.
