What is a V5 in climbing?
The rate of moving up through V grades varies by person and by grade. The higher the grade, the longer it takes to get to the next one. General timelines indicate that from bouldering day one, getting to V4 can take a year, V5 two years, V6 three years, and five years to V7.
What does VB mean in climbing?
V0 through V2: The numbers on the lower end of the scale are associated with easy or beginner bouldering routes. Sometimes, you may see a climb labeled “VB”—the B stands for “beginner” and is often used interchangeably with V0. These climbs are usually considered equivalent to climbs 3 through 5+ on the Font Scale.
Is a 5.8 climb hard?
A 5.0 to 5.7 is considered easy, 5.8 to 5.10 is considered intermediate, 5.11 to 5.12 is hard, and 5.13 to 5.15 is reserved for a very elite few. Climbing grades do not take into account the danger factor; they only describe the physical difficulty of the route.
How hard is a 5.11 climb?
Being able to climb a 5.11 is good and means you are an above average climber. The average leisure climber will not be able to climb routes harder than 5.10d with consistency. Competitive collegiate climbers are able to climb between 5.11a and 5.12b on average.
What is the hardest climbing grade?

Is 7a a good climbing grade?
There’s no doubt that a 7a climber is a very good climber indeed, but don’t be disheartened by the number of youths who sail past this grade in what seems a matter of minutes.
Is 6a a good climbing grade?
6a is equivalent to around HVS or mild E1 in terms of overall difficulty. That is well rounded climber should find both about the same.
